The Seventh principle

The Data Protection Act introduces express obligations upon data controllers when the processing of personal data is carried out by a data processor on behalf of the data controller. In order to comply with the seventh principle the data controller must:-

  • Choose a data processor providing sufficient guarantees in respect of the security measures they take,
  • Take reasonable steps to ensure compliance with those measures, and
Ensure that the processing by the data processor is carried out under contract which is made or evidenced in writing, under which the data processor is to act only on instructions from the data controller. The contract must require the data processor to comply with obligations equivalent to those imposed on the data controller by the seventh principle.

How do you choose a suitable Data Processor?

Use a professional company that follows British and International Standards for industry best practice, and specifically the Industry Code of Practice for the Secure destruction of confidential material - BS 8470:2006. The above British Standard was published in April 2006 and covers the facilities and security of an organisation such as Doxbond DataShred Ltd providing contracted services for the secure destruction of confidential material.

Security features including contracts and audit trail, sub-contracting, screening of personnel and the collection, retention and conveyance of confidential material along with material specific shred and disintegration sizes are covered by the standard.

Our Service

Organisations require ongoing, verified destruction of sensitive material adhering strictly to best practices ensuring a closed and consistent chain-of-custody, resulting in a tightly controlled, documented process that limits security breaches.

Doxbond Datashred Ltd provides a secure, confidential, reliable and environmentally responsible paper document and magnetic media destruction service. Current legislation under the Data Protection Act requires the secure destruction of any data containing personal information.

Doxbond takes pride in providing a first class document destruction service specifically designed to suit your requirements. We use the latest shredding technology in a controlled secure environment, protected by highly sophisticated alarm and surveillance systems. After your documents have been shredded, the confidential waste paper is baled and transported directly to paper-mills for pulping and recycling.

Doxbond Security Shredding offers:

  • Contract between the Data Controller & Data Processor
  • Complete destruction of paper, and other media
  • Trained personnel and highly secure facilities and processes
  • Documented chain-of-custody for accountability
  • Certificates of Destruction issued monthly

  • Witnessed destruction, as required
  • 240l Wheelie bins, slotted and lockable.

At regularly scheduled intervals, our uniformed operatives collect the bins, sacks or storage boxes and provide you with a collection note detailing a seal reference for each item. The items are then transferred to secure vehicles. Materials are delivered to our secure shredding centre, where the sacks and bins seals are logged prior to destruction.

After materials are shredded beyond practicable reconstruction, paper is sent to pulping mills for recycling. At the end of each calendar month, a certificate of destruction is provided, ensuring a documented end to the chain-of-custody established by Doxbond.
